Hello reader. Welcome to my blog, The Fairytale Pretty Picture.
I’ve had this blog for just under half a dozen years and it’s been a big part of my life. This has been a lifestyle blog where I covered everything I enjoyed, from fashion and cooking to knitting and mostly all of my interior decorating projects. I’ve had ups and downs and I’ve learnt a tonne of new skills, including marketing, photography, analytics and much much more. I’ve met some wonderful people and thank the blogging community for always being so supportive.
At the beginning of this year I took a conscious decision to stop blogging to give my time to my nan who was deteriorating very quickly. I have no regrets, for I spent most of this year seeing her every weekend and I am thankful for the serene quality time we had together. We grew closer than ever towards the end, which made it the harder to see her leave us.
She passed away on 25th July 2018.
I’ve never experienced grief this way before because my only other death was my granddad but as he lived in Russia and I in London, in a way I could always ‘pretend’ that he was still alive. I would see him every 6ish years or so and although of course I know this wasn’t the case, it nevertheless made it easier to cope with. This time however it has been, and is, painful because I used to call her nearly every evening after work for a chat and see her, help her and make her smile no matter where she was; her flat; the hospital, and later; her nursing home.
Now that she is gone, I have reassessed my life.
I work full time at a pure-online retailer, I have a Podcast called SEO with Mrs Ghost and I love dog walking. I am grateful that life brought my husband and I together, for without him I would surely have lost my mind.
Where do you fit in?
I wondered about this blog of mine and I definitely don’t want to give it up. I found myself dying to do something creative. No joke. I’m currently paper-mache-ing a costume for a party, knitting tiny hats for premature babies for a charity, knitting for my pregnant close friend and mentally escaping life using podcasts and audio books whilst I drive and go on country walks with the pup. If you’re wondering how I have time, well… I don’t. I simply get clever or some call it – organised.
Anyway, my pure need for a creative outlet is clear so I’ve decided to start blogging again, HURRAH! There will be somewhat of a difference in my tone though because I’ve decided to include creative writing within my posts, such as short stories and book ideas to see where it leads me.
I’ve always wanted to write a book, from horror and zombie escapes to fairy tale twists or romantic thrillers. I’ve toyed with hundreds of ideas and even put pen to paper once… but as stupid as it will sound, I simply didn’t know where to start. So, I heard someone say ‘start at the beginning’ and this blog is exactly that.
Writing for the internet seems easy to me now but when I first started blogging I had to get into the swing of things. Perhaps if I merge my desire to write a novel with writing short snippets for online, this will help me take that next step. Please join me on my journey; my rite of writing.
I start here and I start now.
