Blue Elephant Threate launches a new play focusing on the adaptation of a Chinese legend calledÂ The Butterfly Lovers.
Retold for children over the age of 5, expect a light-hearted dramatisation and magnificent costumes designed byÂ Kessehu-Usert James!
A Quick Summary:
The Butterfly LoversÂ is a vibrant adaptation of the ancient Chinese legend. Under the reign of the evil Emperor Hu, girls are forbidden to go to school, but Zhu disguises herself as a boy to do so. There she meets Liang, and together they changeÂ ChinaÂ forever.
About the Costume Designer:
Kessehu-Usert James is an African American who grew up in the mid-west in a state called Iowa. She has learnt most of her pattern making and draping skills at Iowa State University and now sheâ€™s studying Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Sheâ€™ll be starting her senior line in autumn so be sure to keep an eye out for her work.
