Being engaged means I have many decisions to make and choosing a hat or a fascinator for the wedding day is one of the most important ones.  Attending the Stephen Jones event at Debenhams Oxford street enlightened me about all things millinery, so here are a few tips for choosing the perfect hat to suit your head, outfit and personality…
Go Shopping &Â Try Hats on!
First things first – try on many hats to narrow down your choice and decide on the hats that feel comfortable on your head and shows off your outfit. For example, if your dress is busy then pick a singular colour to compliment it nicely.
Do you need a Hat Head?
Your head size doesn’t matter! Stephen Jones confirms that the hats are made to one size but have a strap just in case you like a snug fit.
We Love Big Hats
Big hats always make a statement. Go for one if you are tall or if you’re wearing a long and elegant dress, either to a sophisticated evening or a garden party. Don’t choose an amazing and large hat to a wedding though, just in case you show up the bride or worse… the bride’s mother!
When to Choose a Modern Fascinator
If you’re looking to make a quirky statement then go for a modern fascinator like the one above. Beautiful and unique, it’s sure to go with any outfit – but Stephen Jones gives us his millinery wisdom, suggesting that we don’t go over the top. So, if your hat is stunning and your dress is busy be careful because, after all, you need to be visible underneath everything that’s happening.
This stunning black and white hat had us in awe; receiving a gasp from the audience. It’s perfect for the Royal Ascot that’s happening from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st June 2014! Be sure to check the size limitations though on your hat as it’s dependant on what area you’re going to within the Ascot event.
Stephen Jones Chooses the Favourite
Stephen reveals his favourite and it’s no surprise to see that it’s this beautiful straw hat with black netting. Absolutely beautiful – as he said, it’s feminine and there’s something about it that’s very youthful! I’d easily wear this on the beach as well as a sophisticated evening 🙂
My Hat Time with Stephen Jones
With Stephen’s expertise, choosing a hat perfect for my head and face was a walk in the department store (if you pardon the pun.)
Above he chose a black that was suave and one that I can easily see working with a little black number in my wardrobe.
Next, he chose a white birdcage veil with beautiful french netting. It’s stunning and goes perfectly with my engagement ring – wedding worthy, wouldn’t you agree? 😉
