Finding it hard not to love wooden floors even though it’s winter?
They look great, they endure the most messy family members, you’re able to wipe away spills with a simple swiping action and when they come from somewhere like French Forest Floors, who have a sustainable management programme for oak forests throughout Europe, it’s hard to find a flaw!
The only drawback seems to be that your home might feel a little breezier that you’d like during the cold winter months. So, here are a number of things that you can do…
Add a Rug
A thick, shaggy rug can really add a cosy feel to your home and eradicate the chill in your home. Simply set it by your furniture, like a sofa, and let your bare feet feel its sumptuous soft textures. I personally love rugs as they add to your decor as well as be practical by keeping your home warm during the cold weather 🙂
Insulate Your Home
There are currently government schemes out there that let you get insulation in your walls and loft for free. Be sure to find out from your local council if you’re eligible for it as most of the houses in my area are – I believe it must have been built after a certain period.
Consider Underfloor Heating
This one can be a really good investment that a lot of people find they can’t live without. Underfloor heating makes it possible for you to walk around bare foot on welcoming, warm floor even when it’s sub-zero degrees outside!
Top tip: check the tog rating of your floor before you buy underfloor heating though as this will determine how well you’ll be able to feel the warmth through it (ask a flooring expert if you’re unsure about this.)
Install a Fireplace
There are some great looking, modern fireplaces that can either be real or electric – both of which produce heat that warms up the room in no time. These can work really well if you have wood floors and can really complete a rustic interior.
I’m certainly not ready to give up the durable, easy to clean floors. So, even though it’s winter, I’ll be sure to use these tips to stay warm and I hope you do too!
