After deciding to make something for the girls that were coming on my hen weekend I chose to do eye pillows. I thought that if they didn’t use it often that they can always use it as a scented wardrobe sachet instead. So it was multi-functional as well as something out of the ordinary.
I used the material that I had leftover from my Hillary’s competition, where I made a tortoise ring bearer outfit (lol) but feel free to use any material that’s 4 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches and here’s how you can make your own eye pillow:
What You Will Need:
100g of rice
1 tsp lavender
Sewing materials (fabric, needle, sewing machine etc)
Step by Step Guide to Making an Eye Pillow:
Cut your material to size. One eye pillow needs two pieces measuring 4 1/2″ by 6 1/2″ giving plenty of space for sewing margin.
Put the two pieces together the right sides facing each other (pattern match here if applicable) and sew three sides together. Leave a shorter side to turn your pillow inside out.
Once you’ve turned the material inside out pour in your lavender and rice. I found that mixing the two prior to pouring gives the scent a more even distribution within.
Sew all four sides on the outside. I used a sewing machine and a fun pattern to add a decorative look to the eye pillow. It may be difficult with the rice getting in the way so take it nice and slow by moving the rice out of the way so that it doesn’t harm your sewing machine.
And there you have it, a cute DIY gift idea for Christmas or perhaps a bridesmaid or even a thank you like what I did for the girls who came to my hen weekend 🙂
