Friends and I went up to the castle and walked around all of the farms and pathways near the River Thames (which is going towards Southend.)  We loved the castle which is on top of the hill and took some photos near the stone walls. We then wandered down the hill towards the c2c national rail trains and beyond where we met lots of people walking their dogs and saw plenty of cyclists go by too.

We walked in a loop which took us about 5 hours. Keeping in mind that we stopped loads to take photographs (and get LOADS of Pokemon on our Pokemon Go Apps…) we very much enjoyed the 11,000 steps that we took.

You can easily keep to the castle area only and sit down for a picnic then leave before the sun is at it’s highest but we decided to go all the way around which meant we also found a quaint little cafe and the c2c station.

It was a real workout but it was totally worth it! I loved photographing the scenery and being in nature as well as being in the midst of historical English character.

BONUS: Visiting Hadleigh castle is free.

I like the English countryside for being so rewarding for people who like hiking. I see the castle is pretty much in ruins, same as Corfe Castle – near which I live. I agree, it’s always great to go on a hike when the weather is good, it helps you keep fit and you will discover new places to visit.
