Blue Elephant Threate launches a new play focusing on the adaptation of a Chinese legend called The Butterfly Lovers.

Retold for children over the age of 5, expect a light-hearted dramatisation and magnificent costumes designed by Kessehu-Usert James!

A Quick Summary:

The Butterfly Lovers is a vibrant adaptation of the ancient Chinese legend. Under the reign of the evil Emperor Hu, girls are forbidden to go to school, but Zhu disguises herself as a boy to do so. There she meets Liang, and together they change China forever.

About the Costume Designer:

Kessehu-Usert James is an African American who grew up in the mid-west in a state called Iowa. She has learnt most of her pattern making and draping skills at Iowa State University and now she’s studying Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. She’ll be starting her senior line in autumn so be sure to keep an eye out for her work.
