Easter DIY Challenge: How to Style an Armchair

The lovely team at Next asked me to get involved with their #NextEasterDIY challenge this Easter.

As you can see I ended up styling a gorgeous beige armchair with some quirky accessories. I, of course, couldn’t forget to add a personal touch to the scene so you can see my romantic wedding bunting and album too.

Add a Throw

A colourful throw is an easy way to make the place instantly cosy. As my armchair was a neutral off-white, I wanted to add a bright orange throw for some colour and contrast. I really think the two-tone compliments the texture of the sofa chair as well as the cute tassles of the throw itself. A throw is easy to change season to season too, so perfect if you like to redecorate the room’s design depending on the weather.

Hang a Mirror

A large mirror reflects natural light in the room making it look larger. For a reading corner it’s perfect as it helps you read without straining your eyes. A modern mirror can also add interest to the room, like the gorgeous pattern of the one in my photos.

Add a Rug

A shaggy rug is super comfortable. Whether you’re reading, writing or typing on your work computer, the textured rug will keep your feet warm. It’s an easy way to add interest to your armchair as well.

Place a Floor Lamp

A large lamp is decorative and practical! Placing one behind or on the side of your armchair will give you lots of lighting in the evenings for you to read or do work. A floor lamp can also come in loads of trendy designs, like the one in the photos so it’s sure to add interest to your room and draw the eye.

Photo Bunting and Albums

Adding a personal touch with your favourite family photos will ensure that you leave your stamp on the room. It’s a place that’s most likely for peace and quiet so it needs to reflect happy memories.

Try adding only a few of the above or all of them and see what works for you. Now, it’s time to relax in your armchair.

Do you have a favourite armchair or a reading corner?

I love the orange and how it adds a pop of colour! My styling has generally been plain simple furniture with colourful accents! I’ll definitely be taking this on board to dress up my armchairs! x
