Christmas is often about eating and drinking things that you wouldn’t normally. For me, I guess, it’s because I believe it’s time for celebration as well as a time to let go of those healthy rules – at least for a couple of weeks! 😉
One of my favourite things to do over this festive period is make my own mulled wine. Although it’s lovely to buy already made mulled wine, I enjoy the process of making it myself and the fact that I can get the taste just perfectly right. By tasting a little bit whilst it simmers I can add ingredients as I go and end up with a mouthwatering beverage.
What You Will Need:
1 whole bottle of fruity red wine
4 cinnamon sticks
2 bay leaves
1 lemon (juice) and its zest
Pinch of grated nutmeg
Cloves to taste
Brew Your Mulled Wine
Put everything in a pan and simmer for 10 minutes.
Make sure that you don’t heat it up too much as you don’t want to burn or fry your ingredients.
Taste your wine with a small spoon to ensure you’re happy with the taste. If you feel like it’s missing something, be sure to add a tiny bit more and repeat the process until you’re happy.
Top Tip: try adding a bit of sugar for a sweeter, more indulgent taste.
Then serve the mulled wine in a nice small glass and drink whilst still warm.
You’re sure to love the taste – I know I do!

I’ve actually never tried mulled wine, believe it or not! I’m really tempted to though, it seems a lot easier to make than I thought! 🙂 x
