NEW: Soupe Du Jour Eatery in Central London

Jona Eckerlein started as head chef at Soup Du Jour in London last year, which was founded by friends Daniel Auner, Charles Rivière de Paillé and Julia Ebert. As the name suggests, the eatery sells mouth-watering soups of all kinds, particularly taking inspiration from those traditional ‘Grandma’s best’ dishes that evokes nostalgia.

I thought I’ll let you know about it in case you love eating in London and looking for a new place to try out 🙂

As the prices are less than a fiver anyway it’s probably a good and healthy lunch and perfect for those busy workers in central London (me) !

Soup Du Jour Chef: Jona Eckerlein

“Cooking is my life and my passion is what makes me happy and I try to challenge myself every day”

Growing up in a small town in south-west Germany, Jona knew he wanted to become a chef from a very young age. Food always amazed him. He visited an elite chef school in Germany and was trained in a Michelin star kitchen. After he worked as Head Chef in a small fine dining restaurant in Trier, he became a Sous Chef in one of London’s finest vegetarian and vegan fine dining restaurants. Now he is Director at Soup du Jour in London and is responsible for the many delicious and healthy soup offers in Soho and the city!

Soup Making Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and cook the onion and carrots until softened (10 mins). Be sure to cover them so that they don’t fry.
  2. Add stock and water as well as the orange juice. Add the ginger and bring to a simmer. Cook until carrots are softened (25 mins).
  3. Remove from the pan into a blender. Blend until softened and salt to taste.
  4. Garnish with chopped parsley and eat to your heart’s content 🙂

Now if you fancy tasting the chef’s cooking for yourself then go and visit Soup Du Jour. If you’ve been then be sure to leave a review below as I’d love to hear what you’ve thought!

Great recipe! I love making big batches of soup to have for a few meals, or store in the freezer for later!
